Dust Off And Get Those Skates On This Christmas
27 - Nov - 2014

Dust off and get those skates on this Christmas!

Ok, we admit it, there isn’t exactly frost on the ground at the moment but that doesn’t mean there isn’t ice in some great locations in London!  Yes, folks, it’s time drag those ice skates out from the back of the wardrobe, dust them off and start practicing those Torvill and Dean moves as we head towards to Christmas.  London this year has some fabulous ice rinks; so, whether you’re an experienced skater or a beginner, here’s a quick guide to five of the top locations.

If you’re looking for a grand, historic location then head to Somerset House and step on to their 900-metre-square outdoor rink located in their 18th century courtyard.  While you’re there, sip a glass of ice cold champagne or warm up those toes and taste buds with a delicious cream team; and if you visit on a Glad Tiding Tuesday, test those vocal chords with live carol singing!

Want to combine your evening of ice skating with shopping at a Christmas market?  Winterville Ice Rink is the place to be as the 600-metre-square ice rink is surrounded by fabulous stalls and attractions, Santa’s grotto, motorcycle stunts, delicious food and drink, plus the fairy tale horse-drawn carriage ride.

Now, if you want a stunning view whilst you’re gliding over the ice, pop along to the ice rink right in front of the fabulous London Eye but don’t forget to keep an eye on where you’re going or you could find yourself sitting on the ice!  Why not combine your visit to the ice rink with a trip on the London Eye?

How about solving a puzzle at the same time as enjoying a spot of ice skating?  Feeling brave?  Hop over to Vauxhall to skate around a winter wonderland and a fantastic, sparkly Christmas tree maze!  Stretching for one square kilometre, locally-sourced Christmas trees festooned with fairy lights have been strategically placed to create an amazing Christmas maze – why not have a go?  Plus wander through their craft market and food stalls, watch their talented street performers and relax with a drink in the cabin bar.

But if you’re looking for an ice rink that is a little more cosy and intimate, take a trip JW3 on Ice which has room for just 70 people and experience Chanukah on Ice, a wonderful celebration of the Jewish festival of lights with candles, live music and DJs, and great cocktails!
