You Dont Have To Go Far To Enjoy A Cruise

You don’t have to go far to enjoy a cruise

The holiday choice of a cruise has steadily grown in popularity over the past few years and with new cruise liners being built with bigger cabins, more restaurant and activity options, grander balconies and entertainment it appears cruise companies have also been listening to their travellers.

With over 750,000 Brits predicted to take a cruise departing from one of the UK’s 20 ports this year, plus the announcement that Norwegian Cruise Line is returning here after a 7-year absence and the launch of P&O’s newest liner, Britannia, we’d thought we’d take a look at some of the cruises setting sail from our shores this year.

If you want to see more of Britain’s coastline, what better way to do that than from a ship?  Fred Olsen is offering their Round Britain Cruise which, as it says, takes you around Britain starting and ending in Southampton.  Stops along the way include beautiful Falmouth in Cornwall, experience the stunning Lakes with a stop in Barrow-in-Furness, discover the delights of the Shetland Islands with a stop in Lerwick, and the highlight is an overnight stay in Edinburgh for the Military Tattoo before returning to Southampton.

P&O is offering a culinary feast with their Spain and France cruise, featuring not one but two celebrity chefs – James Martin and Eric Lanlard.  Departing in September on their newest liner, Britannia from Southampton – that’ll ensure the warm weather – visits to land will include La Rochelle in France, Vigo in Spain, Lisbon in Portugal and Guernsey in the Channel Islands.

The Italian cruise line MSC is better known for their fly-cruises in the Mediterranean but in 2016 they are offering a 7-night cruise around the Continental Coasts including a 2-day stay in Amsterdam.  Again departing from Southampton, you will also see the delights of Bruges, Brussels, Hamburg and Le Havre.

Cunard, probably one of the best known cruise lines in the world and owners of the Queen Mary 2 – probably the world’s only purpose-built cruise liner designed and built for transatlantic crossings – is offering a fabulous 7-night trip to the Big Apple, New York, including an overnight stay, before returning to Southampton.

If you’ve not experienced the magnificence of the Norwegian Fjords, this is a cruise you don’t want to miss!  Celebrity Eclipse cruise line is offering an 8-night holiday where you will be guaranteed spectacular scenery and if you’re lucky, you may even have the opportunity to see the Northern Lights!  Plus you will also call at Bergen, Geiranger, Flam, Alesund and Stavanger.

There are, of course, many other cruise holidays on offer departing from the UK and if you’re considering a holiday on the water this year, you don’t have to travel half the world to join your ship!
