Report on Gatwick Accident

A report on an accident that took place in April 2012 involving a virgin atlantic plane has been released. The flight had made an emergency landing at Gatwick airport and two people were injured.

The flight had left Gatwick for Orlando but returned after the smoke was let out by detectors. The reports indicate that the injuries happened when the passengers were being evacuated from the plane. People trying to remove hand luggage from lockers slowed evacuation in most emergency exits of the plane.

Other exits on the other hand ended up overcrowded causing some passengers to fall over. The report went on to say that the passengers crushed on to each other on the slides hence falling weirdly on the runway.

Though there were fire fighters on sight who had been called in  to help, many passengers fell on the hard conctrete before they could be helped . Two people were seriously injured with most having minor scrapes and burns. Very few got fractures.

Reports also reveal after the plane landed safely but was not evacuated immediately. The cause of the fire was however not established. The report was produced by the the air Accident Investigation Branch. They also have given recommendations most of which seem to have been implemented.
