Traffic at Gatwick on the Increase

Reports show that traffic at Gatwick airport has increased by 6.6% since the begining of the year. An average of 2.2 million people are said to have passed through Gatwick airport in January this year. Though domestic flights through the airport was abit less,  flights within Europe were on the increase.

Traffic from all over the world except North America rose highly to 460,200 passengers in January. Gatwick reported that the airport was mostly frequented by Business and leisure related travelers. Most of them coming from either London or the South East.

Reports show that Dubai, Thailand and Sri lanka were the most favourite tourists destinations for the tourists visiting Europe. These spots received more traffic unlike any other tourist sites in Europe.

Gatwick urged other flights to take up the Atlantic route that was abandoned by the US airways. Gatwick airport which located in South London is trying to make itself  an alternative to Heathrow interms of emerging links. Alongside this,  it has been shortlisted for possible runway expansions by the British Government.

Mr. Nick Dunn, the chief financial officer at Gatwick Stated that Gatwick was impressed with the traffic witnessed in january. He was positive that alongside European growth, they will continue to see stong travel perfomances.
