AIRPORT PICKUPS LONDON

Snowbird Airline Coming To Gatwick International Airport
6 - Oct - 2014

Snowbird airline coming to Gatwick International airport.

Snowbird airlines a Finnish charter airline is starting its flights to London. The first flight will touch down at the Gatwick international airport on the 6th of December. This however, is a reschedule of the original date of the first flight. The airline had planned to start operating on the route in October but delayed due to the fall in Russia’s economy and disputes with the Finnish competition and consumer authority. The flights which will terminate in Gatwick will be twice weekly from Enontekiö in Finland. Snowbird will use an Airbus A320 service on this introductory route to London. Enontekiö located in northern Finland is an ideal location to view the winter northern lights.

Snowbird a new Finnish airline describes itself as a domestic charter company whose core customers are tour operators and travel agencies. Their main markets are Europe and Russia. This explains to a large extent the reason as to why a slump in Russia and straining of ties between Russia and Europe could spell doom for the airline. The airline says it has schedule flights which are sold to individual clients. This business model is set in such a way that it favors the tour companies and travel agents who might want to move a huge number of people as one group.

The return flight to Gatwick will be the first of its kind in London.  It also serves to increase the number of airlines that have chosen Gatwick as there preferred airport in London to more than 10. Gatwick, which is in the running to receive the nod for the much needed airport expansion, is welcoming this new development as a sign that it has the capacity and capability to absorb even more airlines should a second runway and accompanying infrastructure be put in place.
