Additional Runway Consultations for Heathrow set to Begin

Heathrow airport London CEO has announced that the airport will begin consulting with the local community. Speaking at a conference last week, he says the consultation is meant to get people’s views on the proposed addition of a third runway in the airport. This additional runway was proposed by the government airport commission after extensive research.

The commission reported capacity shortages in most London airports. In a document published last December, the commission stated that there was need to expand the airports to curb these shortages. They suggested the need to add a third runway by the year 2030 and another runway by 2050.

In the document, the commission proposed that the first runway be at the northwest part of Heathrow airport together with a new terminal. They also propose extending the Northern runway to the west so as to create a new runway from an existing one.

Mr. Matthew Colin said that the exercise will begin on February 3, 2014. The consultation documents will be sent to residential and business places around the airport. Apart from that, he added that they would be visiting at least nine local places.

The main aim of this exercise is to get the peoples opinion on the set additional flight path and how these new developments would affect them. It is also meant to help identify any sensitive areas that would be inconvenienced by the set project.

The CEO stated that it is important to get this information before they submit their decision to the commission in May this year. This is because the airport wants to achieve convenience for both their customers and the local community.
