Heathrow Set To Open New Terminal

London Heathrow airport has announced the official opening of its new terminal. The new terminal 2 which will be known as Queen’s terminal is set to be opened on June 4, 2014. It cost Heathrow 4.1 Billion to build the terminal. The magnificent terminal is comprised of a building, a satellite terminal connected by a passenger tunnel. Terminal two has been designed in such a way to avoid the inconvenience and equipment malfunction the occurred in 2008 when terminal 5 began operations.

It is expected to accommodate up to 20 million passengers every year. Though it is not entirely complete, tests are being carried out to ensure that it can handle the said capacity. The airport has announced that the terminal will be opened in phases before it is fully functional. The new terminal will host several airlines including Virgin Atlantic, Star alliance airlines, Aer Lingus and German wings. United airlines are said to be the first to move to the new terminal while the others are set to move in the following six months after it has been opened.

The terminal which has unique architectural designs is set to impress whoever uses the terminal. On arrival are sixty six self serve kiosks then 60 check- in desks. 56 of these check- in desks are for premium passengers and economy travellers. The departure areas are 63 shops, bars and restaurants that give you a beautiful view of the runway. The terminal has an area for children to play in and a pharmacy. Heathrow has announced that there will be specific lounges that offer more luxury; these will offer more Wi-Fi time and more power plugs to charge your device. There’s also a premium lounge which is a pay per visit, it has lounge sitting, numerous sleeping suites, private resting places and a restaurant. It will also have a Wi-Fi workstation.
