The management of Heathrow airport has announced new measures to enhance security in and around the airport. Though the new measures mean that ‘checking in’ will take relatively longer than usual, the officials at the airport are advising passengers to arrive at least ninety minutes prior to departure time.
Passengers’ at the airport have been requested to be patient while the additional measures are in place. The management has also hinted of possible delays which may result from the improved security checks.
According to the new security policy, passengers will be permitted to carry more than one item of hand luggage through security checks. However some airlines will only permit one item through the security checks and passengers are therefore advised to confirm with their airlines before arrival at the airport.
Some liquids will be allowed through the security checks though with certain restrictions, the liquids include gels, lotions, and cosmetics.
Also among restricted and prohibited items are scissors, tools, and razor blades among others. Passengers are advised to check the exact hand luggage restrictions with their airlines prior to packing.
The passengers have also been warned that the confiscated items will not be returned or compensated unless under exceptional circumstances.
The size of cabin baggage has also been restricted to 56 centimeters tall, 45 centimeters wide and 25 centimeters deep though some airlines may have further restrictions on the size of the bag.
Passengers carrying essential medicines may be permitted in larger quantities above 100ml subject to authentication. Passengers carrying baby food will be required to taste it at the security check points. The 100ml rule may be exempted for those carrying milk and baby food.
Passengers have also been advised to adhere to the new security measures and contact or visit their airlines for a comprehensive security policy.
