SPIE UK’s building services division are celebrating; they’ve just been awarded the second phase of transforming Stansted Airport’s terminal, including 46 new retail units to be completed over this and the next, final phase. The first phase of the £80 million re-development plan saw a state-of-the-art security area, and the start of the re-design of the international departure lounge including up-to-the-minute modern seating areas, restaurants and consumers’ favourite shops.
Stansted’s transformation is yet another step in the UK’s airports efforts to match, if not exceed, the expectations of today’s passengers to increase footfall throughout the airport; the more attractive and inviting the passenger areas, the shopping outlets in which to spend money, and the choice of restaurants, bars and cafes in which to relax, have a drink and wait for boarding, the more likely that passenger will choose to fly from that airport again in the future – surely a win-win situation for all?
The building services team at SPIE will be providing mechanical, construction, electrical, HVAC and plumbing to the retail units, and they have been selected based on their breadth of experience and high quality work, particularly in the field of aviation. They have a proven track record in delivering a project not only on time, but also within budget.
Matt Allen, head of development and construction at Stansted Airport, supported this thought: “With a proven in-depth track record of delivering, plus a strong track record, we are sure that SPIE will strengthen the terminal transformation delivery team.”
James Thoden van Velzen, CEO at SPIE UK, is delighted to have been awarded the second phase and believes it is a great opportunity for them to expand their experience in aviation sector, adding: “This is a testament to the building services team’s work and I’m confident that they will be successful in supporting Stansted’s development plan to ensure an exceptional customer experience for visitors as they travel through Stansted.”
