BA and Delta Flights Make Emergency Landings at Gatwick and Heathrow

A British Airways flight bound for Crete made an emergency landing at Gatwick Airport, Monday evening, after experiencing a technical fault.

BA pilots told the Evening Standard that they had to request for a “priority landing”  after experiencing technical problems while still in the air.

The plane, which landed at 6:04pm, was inspected leading to the cancellation of 10 flights and the closing of the runway.

A spokesperson for the airline said, “At 6.04pm a British Airways flight landed at Gatwick with a technical fault. The runway was temporarily unavailable while inspections took place but reopened at 6.41pm and flights have resumed.

“Following the closure, 10 departing flights have had to be cancelled.

“Additional airport staff have been brought in to help with the welfare of these passengers, including helping them to book hotels where required and making arrangements to re-book them onto the next available flight.”

The carrier apologized to its passengers for any inconvenience caused and provided hotel rooms for affected passengers.

Elsewhere, a Delta flight from Amsterdam to Orlando made an emergency landing at Heathrow airport.

A Delta Airlines spokesperson said, “Delta flight 127 operating from Amsterdam to Orlando diverted to London Heathrow due to a maintenance issue with an on-board sensor.

“Delta maintenance personnel in London will replace the part and the flight is expected to depart shortly thereafter.

“Customer and crew safety is always Delta’s top priority.”

Over the weekend, thousands of holiday travellers were left stranded after poor weather in Europe caused flight cancellations and delays.
