British Airways to Bring More Jobs to LCA

British Airways has brought a new plane to London City Airport, and its arrival heralds about 30 new jobs. The Embraer 190 Aircraft is set to increase flights ahead of next summer’s busy season.

The jet will operate 14 extra trips to popular sun destinations and will upgrade the service to Dusseldorf, increasing set capacity by 50%. During the peak summer season, from June to September, there will be three additional flights a week to Nice, two to Faro, Florence, Ibiza and Angers and one extra flight a week to Quimper, Venice and Palma, Majorca. This will provide a 30% increase in seats to holiday destinations directly from London City Airport

Increased flights and capacity will help meet the demand of London City customers who would like a better schedule and more flexibility for their summer holiday destinations.

The new plane is expected to arrive in May, just as the summer season begins to pick up. The plane is quieter and more fuel-efficient than its predecessors. The jet is a narrow body twin-engine jet airliner, and has a low wing design with engines mounted below the wings. The wings are also fitted with winglets, reducing drag, and creating more lift and efficiency. This new high efficiency and high performance more than meets noise and emission requirements set forth by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), producing 15-30% less CO2 than the previous generation aircraft.

With its sleek, slim profile; this jet only has aisle and window seats, no middle row.

British Airways anticipates this jet will help them to easily accommodate increased passenger traffic over the next summer season.
