Gatwick Airport Continues To Grow

It’s more good news Gatwick Airport. They have recently recorded record numbers of passengers going through their airport; 2.5 million just this past December and over 40 million for the year. These numbers only underline Gatwick’s bid for another runway at the airport.

To quote: Gatwick CEO Stewart Wingate said: "2015 was a record-breaking year for Gatwick as the airport continued to break new ground. We served 40.3 million passengers - the most from any single runway anywhere in the world. A Government decision this year backing Gatwick expansion will mean that Britain finally solves its long standing problem of airport capacity in the South East. Our plan is legal, affordable, cleaner and quieter and will deliver for Britain."

The airport has shown continued growth as they passed their 34th month, with the increase of long haul flights with the best numbers. The region in particular is the North Atlantic with flights to Toronto, Los Angeles, and Los Vegas, followed closely by warm weather destinations like Goa, Dubai, and Barbados. Airlines like Norwegian have reported an increase as well, with offering affordable flights to the eastern seaboard, such as Boston and New York.

With these numbers on the rise, it may become an actual necessity to add another runway to Gatwick. With the length of time it takes to build one, it is now becoming a matter of when should they begin breaking ground. With an almost three year consecutive increase in passenger traffic, the numbers speak for themselves.
