Conservationists from Gatwick have come together and organized a march in conjunction with Heathrow in a No new runways march. The conservationists are wary of the adverse effects that the new runway in Gatwick airport will have on the environment. Gatwick area conservation campaign matched last week following concerns that the expansion will have far reaching negative effects on the environment. The same conservation group last year had managed to woo quite a number of people in its march to parliament. A new runway at Gatwick airport will have damning consequences for everyone. “We cannot ignore climate change is happening however hard we try” said GACC chairman Brendon Sewill.
An expansion at Gatwick airport is most likely to breach the requirements of the climate change act. The airports commission assertion that the expansion will be in line with the climate change act is a pure misstatement of facts the lobby group says. Unless other airports or industries cut down their carbon emissions by 85% the climate change act will have been violated.
Gatwick however, despite opposition from councils and environmental lobby groups, they are adamant and soldering on with their plans. Through their campaign Gatwick obviously they are saying that environmental conservation and climate change are at the center of their grand plans. The have undertaken to diligently meet all noise, air quality regulations with a goal to have a carbon neutral airport. Gatwick airport is also wooing households by promising compensation and insulation schemes in case the runway is granted to them. If they do get the nod for the runway, the promise to give £46 million to the local authorities to deliver essential infrastructure to the surrounding community and £3.75 million toward the creation of new job opportunities supporting the airport in the area.
