Holidaymakers Hit with Parking Fines after Valeting Firm Moved their Vehicles to a Council Pay and Display Space

Holidaymakers jetting off from Heathrow Airport over the Easter weekend have been left shocked after they were slapped with £33,000 worth of parking fines. Valeting firms, to whom they had paid up to £150 a week to keep their vehicles in a secure place apparently moved them to council pay-and-display spaces. Upon return, the 275 travelers were met with £60 of fines, which when unpaid for a month rise to £120.

The vehicles had been moved to Fairfield Road car park in Yiewsley, and Brandville Road car park in West Drayton, both run by Hillingdon council. Valeting firms meet customers at the airport and drive their cars to secure parking locations and bring them back when the travelers return.

A couple from Lichfield, David and Julia O'Neill, who had been holidaying in Vietnam were horrified to find their car hit with a parking ticket, despite having been assured it would be left in a secure car park. Ms O'Neill said: “We'll just wait and see now if the council gets in touch about our parking ticket.”

According to the Sun, one meet and greet company, Connect Parking admitted they had put some vehicles in the car parks Yiewsley and West Drayton. Tahir Zaman, the manager said: “Only five of the cars belonged to us. What happened was the drivers left the cars, went for lunch and then got the tickets. The company contacted the council to pay the tickets. Heathrow Airport and the Hillingdon Council are looking into the matter.”

A Hillingdon Council spokesman said: “We are aware of reports that some vehicles were parked in the car parks by a Heathrow parking company and not the vehicle owners. Our trading standards team has launched an investigation and will be contacting the people who have received the parking tickets.”
