The US has recently added UK citizens to its Global Entry Program. The program will allow them to apply to go through Customs and Border Control through a fast track lane that can cut processing times down by 70%. The UK has a reciprocal program called the Registered Traveler Program.
The current program currently allows German, Dutch, and Korean citizens, to name a few to apply for the program. After 3rd December, British citizens are welcome to apply.
Matthew Barzun, the United States Ambassador to the United Kingdom said, “The special relationship deserves a special entry system that makes it quicker and easier for frequent travellers to do business, visit family, and enjoy our great countries.”
To apply, travelers will have to apply to the Home Office and pay a processing fee of £42. After being vetted by the Home Office the traveler is given a code that they will use when applying for the Global Entry Program, and the last step for that is an in person interview with a US Customs and Border officer. The global pass is £65 and it is good for 5 years.
The scheme would enhance security and make travel between the two countries easier. As any international traveler knows, the chaos at the border when several international flights land at once is simply chaotic. If one can pay a fee to avoid this, then it is completely worth the cost. After all, spending £100 for peace of mind and a speedy transit for 5 years? Absolutely!
