Manchester Airport plans to have doubled the passenger numbers by 2036

Manchester Airport says it is aiming to double the number of its passengers by 2036. Andrew Cowan, who is the boss, spoke after the airport announced a good financial report. The airport aims to have a better financial report next year.  The airport has paid a half year dividends and the 10 town halls of Manchester have netted a £20m windfall between them. This was regarded as a great achievement for the airport.

The Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Cowan, indicated that it is so early to talk about the final dividends. He added that it was the first time they paid an interim. He saw it a good progress being at £31 in just half a year, as compared to the last year when they were at £46 for the full year.

Manchester airport bosses say they are aiming to increase the number of passengers as well as open new routes to China and America. The current runway capacity is 55m passengers in a year. The airport is likely to have its peak this year, which is a good step towards their aimed goal. They expect to add one million passengers every year for the next 25 years.

The flights to china are necessary as there are more passengers who want to travel there. The airport started a route to Hong Kong and they are aiming to secure a direct route to Beijing. More people are also travelling to Australia and the airport is also aiming to expand its flights there.  Flights to America are also necessary and it has become another major target.

Manchester airport’s key goal is to attract the 4m passengers who travel to London to travel on throughout the world. Mr. Cowan says the expansion of the airport would be beneficial to the airport itself as well as Manchester as a whole.
