Road works programme near Birmingham for three months

A roadwork programme was started on Tuesday 26th August to widen the A45 – Coventry Road- into Birmingham airport and will run for the next three months. This construction is aimed at reducing congestion and traffic at the airport.

Birmingham is located at the heart of UK Motorway Network off Junction 6 of the M42 through the A45. The airport’s postcode is B26 3QJ when entering using a Sat-Nav.

The exit slip road from the M42 junction roundabout to the A45 westbound carriageway has been closed since then and will remain closed for the duration of the program that is expected to run up to 21st November this year. This road was closed to ensure the safety of drivers and the road construction workers is guaranteed.

The flow link that is between the A45 westbound and the M42 northbound carriageway has been and will remain open and the vehicles using this route will not be affected during the road construction period.

Any vehicle from the M42 J6 roundabout joining the A45 westbound carriageway to the airport is required to divert to the A45 eastbound carriageway from where it can access the westbound carriageway at the roundabout in ‘Stonebridge’.

A notice from the Birmingham website indicated that there could be a five hour closure of the free flow link form the M42 northbound carriageway through the A45 westbound carriageway from Tuesday 26th at 10pm.

The website has provided maps showing the areas of the road and the diversion routes affected by the scheme. Drivers are advised to leave an extra time for all journeys leading to the airport during this period.

The airport provides for on-site car and motorbike parking within an easy distance of the terminal building.
