Ryanair Could Soon Be Bristol Airports Biggest Carrier
7 - Mar - 2015

Ryanair could soon be Bristol airport’s biggest carrier.

Ryanair UKs largest low-cost airline is looking forward to being the largest airline operating from Bristol airport. The airline is seeking to shake off its budget airline image and has strategically chosen Bristol airport to launch its expansion. Ryanair has been flying to and from Bristol airport for the last 18years and has a base at the airport. It has four planes there, creating employment for 250 people directly and creating an additional 1400 jobs indirectly at the airport. Bristol airport is strategic to the airline due to a large number of about 8 million people who are a few hours’ drive from the airport.

Ryanair’s marketing director, reckons that their biggest challenge as of now is the number of planes they have. He says there are 300 aircraft on order to supplement the existing 200 aircraft. This will enable the airline to deploy more aircraft at Bristol airport to serve more business and leisure routes. The airline expects to increase the jobs at the airport with the increase of aircrafts and routes.

In the airlines summer schedule, the airline has announced 28 routes. There will be 97 return flights weekly flying 1.4 million passengers in a year through Bristol airport. Ryan air has added a secondcarry-on bag and allocated seating as a measure to appeal to savvy business customers.

Despite the clamour to be more appealing to business executives, the airline maintains it will strive to keep fares and costs down. Instead the airline intends to win over this section of customers by improving the flying experience. The airlines bulk of customers are leisure travellers but there are small pockets of business travellers on routes such as Dublin, Warsaw and Milan all from Bristol airport.
