Ryanair Flight Makes Emergency Landing in France and Ryanair’s Pilots Announce Strike

A Lisbon bound Ryanair flight that left London Stansted yesterday, was diverted to Nantes France after a passenger fell ill.

A Ryanair spokesperson said: “This flight from Stansted to Lisbon diverted to Nantes after a customer became ill on board.

“The crew called ahead to request medical assistance, the aircraft landed normally and the customer disembarked and was met by medics for further treatment. The aircraft will depart for Lisbon shortly.

“Ryanair apologises to all customers for this short delay.”

In other news, Ryanair pilots have announced they will go on strike next Thursday July 2 for 24-hours.

According to the Irish Air Line Pilots' Association (IALPA), the pilots voted 94 to 1 for the Industrial action.

The pilots are disputing Ryanair’s approach to transferring pilots between Europe bases and holiday leaves.

The union said it will notify Ryanair of more walkouts “in due course”.

A spokesperson for the carrier said the strike is “unnecessary”. He said, "Ryanair will communicate next Tuesday by email and SMS text with all customers travelling from Ireland next Thursday if this unnecessary strike goes ahead.”

The Dublin based carrier last December averted a pilot strike by recognizing unions something the CEO Michael O'Leary said “hell would freeze over” before that happened.  In February, O’Leary said he is willing to endure walkouts rather than bend to the union’s demands.

It was also revealed that the budget airline cancelled more than 1,100 in June due to air traffic control strikes compared to just 41 cancellations in June of last year. More than 210,000 passengers faced flight cancellations in June 2018.
