Ryanair to fill Monarch Airline Routes at East Midlands Airport

Budget Airline Ryanair is expected to fill the flight routes vacated by Monarch airline after it stops its flights form Midlands Airport from next year. Monarch airline is set to quit its flights from the Castle Donington airport by the end of April next year. The airline decided to quit the flights, which they had started in 2012, in order to concentrate on the other UK bases and also implement their plans of establishing itself as a low cost carrier.

Monarch airline currently flies to Malaga, Faro, Palma, Arrecife, Malta, Ibiza, Alicante and Tenerife using two aircrafts which are based at the airport. Ryanair has announced it will be having flights twice a week to Malta from next summer and the tickets will be sold from this week.

The Dublin based airline will now offer extra flights to Malaga, Alicante, Faro and Tenerife. Formerly, both Ryanair and Monarch had doubled up the routes but by next week only Ryanair will operate in those routes.

The airline schedule also features more flights to Mallorca, Lanzarote and Palma starting summer 2015, meaning; it will be operating 36 routes from East Midlands.

Ryanair said they were pleased to extend their East Midland schedule to 36 routes with new and extra routes to such areas as Malaga, Alicante and Faro whose tickets will be available from this week.

This decision, however, affectsmost staff workers in the Monarchairlines including the pilots, cabin crew and engineers. The airline said they will relocate the workers to Manchester and Birminghamairports where they will continue to carry on their operations.

East Midlands said they were disappointed by this withdrawal but maintained they were confident their operations would come to normal.
