Tour de France – Arrangements at the London City Airport

The Tour de France is coming to London on Monday 7th July, 2014. The arrangements are ongoing at London City Airport and there will be changes on the road networks. Information on these changes in road networks is provided on the website tfl.gov.uk/tourdefrance and further updates are issued on Twitter@TfLTPH

During the event, there will be changes in road layout and closure of some others to accommodate the event and therefore there will be changes in the access arrangements to London City Airport. All vehicles, including taxis and private hire vehicles will have different arrangements to access the Airport on that day.

Road closures will take effect from 1000 hours and the changes in the arrangements will be in place between 1000 to 1500 hours which will continue until it’s safe to re-open the roads.

To access the London City Airport during the scheduled time, the following routes will be used:

To drive to the airport between 1000 to 1500 hours you will be required to drive south from the A13 Newham Way along the A1020 Royal Docks Road then turn right onto the Albert Way. At the roundabout at the north end of Connaught Bridge, vehicles will be guided through the road closure by marshals into the race route. Vehicles should continue onto the southbound carriageway of the bridge and then through the airport. Cyclists should travel the wrong way down the adjacent northbound carriageway later in the day.

When leaving the airport you are required to turn left and follow the A112 Connaught Rd/Albert Rd through to Woolwich Manor and the Sir Steve Redgrave Bridge. These ways lead onto the A1020 Royal Docks Rd northbound that will lead you to A13.

To drive to the airport from 1500 hours, until roads re-open, you are required to drive south from the A13 Newham Way along the Royal Docks Road and continue straight on via the Sir Steve Redgrave Bridge onto Woolwich Manor Way. At the traffic lights at the junction with Fishguard Way, you will turn right into the industrial estate. Marshals will be available to direct you on to the airport access road that leads onto Hartmann Road and then into the airport. This road is not usually open to general traffic; you are therefore cautioned to drive carefully.

When leaving the airport, you will turn left and follow the A112 Connaught Rd/Albert Rd through to Woolwich Manor Way and the Sir Steve Redgrave Bridge. These will lead you to the A1020 Royal Docks Rd northbound which will take you to A13.

Although the event will cause disruption, measures will be taken to minimise this and there are arrangements to ensure continued access to the London City Airport throughout the day.

The Tour de France race is the world’s largest annual sporting event which attracts around 12 million spectators along the full length of the route, as well as a huge global TV audience. It occasionally visits neighboring counties with this year’s event taking place in London in the UK.
