Transport Network Chaos Expected Over Easter Weekend as Tube Lines and Stations Close

Londoners should brace themselves for travel chaos over Easter as road works, train cancellations and tube station closures are set to paralyse transport services. The thousands of tourists who will be visiting at the same period will only further compound the problem.

Transport for London (TfL) has revealed that parts of major Tube lines including the Circle, District, Hammersmith and City and Metropolitan lines will be closed between Good Friday (April 14) and Easter Monday (April 17)

Victoria line will be closed from 3 am on Easter Sunday until Tuesday April 18, while Whitechapel station will be completely shut off throughout the Easter weekend.

Overground services between several major travel hubs will be cancelled and Southern Rail services will not stop at several central London stations.

On London Underground, there will be no Circle line service between Hammersmith and Aldgate via King's Cross, Hammersmith & City line service between Liverpool Street and Barking will be closed, as well as District line service between Aldgate East and West Ham.

Londoners who commute on the Metropolitan line services between Wembley Park and Northwood/Uxbridge will also be affected as services will be unavailable. The closures will also affect Victoria line service, which will be shut off on Easter Sunday and Monday.

London Overground lines whose service will be stopped are:

  • Between Camden Road and Stratford
  • Between Romford and Upminster
  • Between Highbury & Islington and Shadwell on Easter Sunday and Monday
  • Between Surrey Quays and New Cross on Easter Sunday and Monday

TfL Rail will have no service between Stratford and Romford as well as between Newbury Park and Shenfield, while DLR will shut off services between Bow Church and Stratford

On Southern, Easter weekend will see no trains run from Cannon Street, Deptford, Greenwich, Maze Hill and Westcombe Park. Trains from Charing Cross Waterloo East, London Bridge, Cannon Street, Deptford, Greenwich, Maze Hill and Westcombe Park will not operate on Good Friday and Easter Saturday.

Fortunately, replacement services will run across the major travel hubs to ease commuter misery.
