Travellers Left Stranded at Stansted Airport as Ryanair Cancels Flights

Hundreds of passengers were yesterday left stranded at Stansted Airport after Ryanair cancelled flight due to ‘adverse weather’.

Torrential rain and thunderstorms hit parts of the UK yesterday. The Met office had issued a yellow warning for rain in Northern and Western parts of the UK.

Pictures of huge queues were circulated online after the budget airline cancelled the flights.

Sheryl Hickey tweeted: “Beware of flying with @Ryanair! Flight cancelled, no announcement, no staff anywhere. Appalling cust.service. 3hrs in q. No RA staff throughout #stanstead. 100s of ppl q-ing. Easy4saving fuel when seats r empty. Now gettin alt.flight and 6hr bus journey. Happy holidays. #scumbag.”

Ryanair’s Berlin and Budapest flights were also cancelled leaving passengers in limbo. The Daily Mail reported that there were claims that the airline did not provide assistance to persons with disabilities, a claim the airline refutes.

A frustrated traveller known as Caroline Pelletier tweeted: “#Ryanair our flight from Budapest to London cancelled. No customer service at the airport. No support to arrange overnight accommodation. Big bill paid to fly home with alternative provider. Ryanair should pay for alternative flights home.”

Ryanair said, “All affected customers were re-accommodated and hotel accommodation vouchers were authorised.”

Some flights at Gatwick airport were also cancelled. Easy Jet cancelled 48 flights to and from Gatwick Airport.

A spokesman for Gatwick Airport advised passengers to check their flight status with their airline, adding: “Due to thunderstorms and fog across Europe, we are experiencing some delays and cancellations to flights today.” The BBC reported.

The Met office warned of more severe weather to come.
