DLR Plans Series of Workers’ Strikes in 2016

The workers for Docklands Light Railway (DLR) are planning a series of strikes in the New Year over their pay and conditions with line operator, Keolis Amey. The first in the series is set to begin in January 2016.
The workers are unhappy with what they express as bullying, abuse of workers, and unfair and unsafe worker practices.

Despite a strike this past year in November, the company is refuses to listen to the requests of the workers and is instead continuing with said practices.

650 of the 700 DLR workers are members of the Rail, Maritime, and Transport Union, so any strike actions will definitely debilitate the system. The RMT would prefer this not be the case, but as there are continued breaches of contract, bullying and unfair treatment of staff, the union feels they have no choice in the matter.
The first strike will start at 3.59am on January 11 for 24 hours followed by more walkouts at the same time on January 13, February 8 and 11 and March 7, 10, 21 and 29. The final two strikes will last for four days.

The RMT would prefer to avoid having to carry out these strikes, as they are concerned for passengers that use the services, but if things continue as they are, the RMT feels there is no other choice.

Keolis Amey on the other hand have said that there have been a series of talks and negations, and they are disappointed at the actions of the union as they have been working with them and would prefer to avoid, the problems and disruptions for their passengers.

If the strikes do commence, passengers will likely be forced to walk or take the boat in to London.
With the first strike looming ahead, if you take any of these services, it might be best to try and be prepared for them.
