Airlines, the world over, line up to change cockpit policy

Major airlines across the world have begun changing their safety policies in response to the recent French Alps crash that claimed 150 passengers. These airlines majorly in the UK, Canada, Norway and Germany are moving with haste to implement a directive requiring the cockpit to have two people at any one time. The UK civil aviation authority is monitoring the developments of the crash investigation. Lufthansa whose GermanWings airline was involved in the crash said it is not in a rush to issue such a directive since; a rogue pilot will not be stopped by rules but rather by early detection.

These safety changes come after investigations revealed that, the pilot of the GermanWings flight was locked out of the cockpit by his co-pilot after a visit to the restroom. The co-pilot, investigators say can be heard banging on the cockpit doors, which after September 11 cannot be opened from the outside.  The co-pilot there after crashed the plane in to the mountains below rather slowly but surely.

Monarch airlines have issued the new regulations to be implemented with immediate effect. In addition it is holding onto its “eye-on “checks where it requires cabin crew to regularly check on the pilot and first officer by physically going into the cockpit. EasyJet has already started the two man cockpit rule as of Friday 27th march.

The civil aviation authority has asked all UK operators to review procedures. In addition it stressed that it undertakes regular and extensive medical fitness to determine ability to hold a licence. The co-pilot only known as Andrea Lubitz, was alone in the cockpit when the crash happened and was in absolute silence even as bangs are heard on the cock pit entrance.

The search is on for the flight data black box that could confirm the conditions of the crash.
