Lydd Airport Expansion to Take off Next Year

A report presented to the Lydd consultative committee indicated that the expansion plans for the airport will begin on 2016 as scheduled.  The assessment report of the airport’s development was presented to the committee on Thursday November 26th. This project that will cost the airport millions of pounds is believed to give the airline a new image that is expected to impress the customers.

The assessment report also contains over 60 conditions for the airline to meet before they were given permission to embark on the expansion process. The management at the airline informed the committee that the company had done much to ensure the airline met all the conditions set before they could be granted the permission to proceed with the development programme. The extension programme will include the construction of a new runway and a new terminal building.

Major factors that were considered in the plan include such conditions as noise pollution with regard to the winter bird nesting studies, water pollution and drainage concerns as well as human settlements. The airline held that they had passed all the tests set by all the bodies in charge of environmental regulations in the region.

Lydd’s executive manager added that the management is delighted to proceed with the expansion process, having met all necessary conditions. The expansion will extend through 294 Metres from the current 1500 Metre runway and will also include a 150 Metre starter area. The construction process is expected   to begin early next year till the end of the year.

The company also welcomes the general public to future meetings so as to share their views and concerns in an effort to ensure the development benefits all parties.
